Juneteenth Celebration
Montevallo's annual celebration of freedom, heritage, and unity featuring performances, food, community recognitions, and children's activities.
Montevallo’s Juneteenth Celebration is an annual gathering of freedom, heritage, and community unity held at George Dailey Park. Hosted by the Montevallo Parks and Recreation Board, the event has quickly grown into one of the most meaningful days on the community calendar.
History
The celebration began in 2023, the year after Juneteenth was established as a federal holiday. By 2025, the event drew more than 170 attendees — a testament to how warmly the community has embraced it.
A Landmark Moment in 2025
The 2025 celebration included a significant milestone for Montevallo’s history: the unveiling of the Selma Road Black Business District historical marker. The marker recognizes a chapter of the city’s past that deserves to be remembered and honored, and its dedication during Juneteenth connected the event’s themes of freedom and heritage directly to local ground.
What to Expect
The celebration features:
- Live performances — music and cultural programming
- Food — traditional and community fare
- Community recognitions — honoring individuals and contributions
- Children’s activities — family-friendly programming for all ages
