Hometown Halloween

Family-friendly trick-or-treating along Main Street — a 50+ year Montevallo tradition hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.

Hometown Halloween is Montevallo’s annual trick-or-treat celebration along Main Street — a cherished community tradition that has been running for more than 50 years, hosted each year by the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce.

A Half-Century of Trick-or-Treating

Few Halloween traditions in Shelby County run as deep as this one. Montevallo’s Main Street transforms into a safe, walkable corridor of Halloween fun every October 31st, drawing costumed kids and families from across the area for an afternoon of trick-or-treating in the heart of downtown.

How It Works

The event runs along Main Street from City Hall to Jack’s, with local merchants, community groups, and University of Montevallo students setting up at storefronts and stations to hand out candy and treats. The stretch is walkable, well-attended, and safe — exactly the kind of environment parents look for on Halloween.

Community Participation

What makes Hometown Halloween special is how broadly the community shows up for it. Local businesses decorate and participate, student organizations from UM get involved, and neighbors come out to share in the spirit. It is a genuinely communal event rather than a produced spectacle.

When

Held annually on Halloween, October 31st, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. Costumes are encouraged for all ages.
