Fire Prevention Parade

One of Montevallo's oldest traditions — the annual Fire Prevention Parade features fire trucks, community groups, and fire safety education on Main Street.

The Montevallo Fire Prevention Parade is one of the city’s longest-running community traditions — a celebration of fire safety and community pride that has been bringing residents to Main Street for more than five decades.

History

The parade was established around 1974 by the Montevallo Fire and Rescue Service as part of national Fire Prevention Week. The 51st annual parade was held in 2025, a milestone that underscores just how deeply rooted this event is in the fabric of the community.

What to Expect

The parade features Montevallo’s fire and rescue apparatus alongside community groups, civic organizations, and school participants. Fire safety education is woven throughout — it is a celebration that also carries a genuine public safety message, consistent with the event’s origins.

Fire Prevention Week

The parade is typically held during Fire Prevention Week in early October, a national observance that dates to the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Montevallo’s parade connects this national tradition to the local community in a way few other cities have sustained for as long.

A Community Staple

For generations of Montevallo families, the Fire Prevention Parade has marked the beginning of fall. It is the kind of event that parents bring their children to, and those children grow up to bring their own — a living thread in the city’s identity.
